Tehran ralliers marking US Embassy takeover slam West insults to Islam

Demonstrators marking the 33rd anniversary of the US Embassy takeover in Tehran have condemned the West’s insults to Islamic sanctities, urging concrete measures by the international community to stop blasphemous acts.

Iranians from all walks of life staged nationwide rallies on Friday to mark the historic event. The demonstrations marking Iran’s Student Day ended with a statement, in which the demonstrators called for international measures to criminalize any insult to the divine religions.

“We, the Muslim and revolutionary Iranian nation, along with other Islamic nations once again condemn the blatant insults of the global arrogance and the international Zionism to the Great Prophet (PBUH),” the statement said.

“We call on international organizations and community, including the United Nations, to take effective and practical measures to include respect for the divine religions and prophets in the international charters and regulations, criminalize any insult to them and prosecute the criminals,” it added.

The statement also described the wave of Islamic Awakening in the Middle East and North Africa as well as the Occupy Wall Street movement in the US as an extension of Iran’s Islamic Revolution and warned the leaders of the global hegemony, in particular the US government, to stop their human rights violations and abandon their hegemonic policies.

The participants also voiced support for the Palestinian cause as well as resistance against the Zionist regime until the liberation of Palestine. They said that the only solution to the Palestinian issue is the return of all Palestinians to their homeland and a free election.

In addition, the demonstrators also condemned the killing of Muslims in Myanmar and Bahrain, and called on Islamic governments and the international community to take swift measures to stop such massacres.

The ralliers also condemned the Eutelsat’s recent move to take a number of Iranian channels including Press TV off the air as media terrorism.
