Militants have killed 19 people in an overnight attack on the government-controlled parts of the Syria’s northwestern city of Aleppo, an opposition group says.

According to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights on Friday, the Takfiri militants’ offensive claimed 19 lives, including at least five children, and wounded 32.

Three of the children lost their lives alongside their mother after the militants’ rocket hit their car in the western part of Aleppo.

Aleppo is currently divided between Syrian army forces controlling the western part of the city and Takfiri militants who have captured the eastern part.

Syria has been grappling with a deadly crisis since March 2011. The violence fuelled by Takfiri groups has so far claimed the lives of over 200,000 people, according to reports. New figures show that over 76,000 people, including thousands of children, lost their lives in Syria last year.

Over 7.2 million Syrians have also become internally displaced due to the ongoing crisis, according to the United Nations.

The ISIL terrorist group, with members from several Western countries including Canada, France, Australia and Germany, controls swathes of land in Syria and Iraq, and has been carrying out horrific acts of violence such as public decapitations and crucifixions against all communities such as Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, and Christians.
