At least five civilians have been killed and more than two dozen others injured in separate mortar attacks launched by foreign-sponsored Takfiri militants against residential areas in and around Syria’s capital, Damascus.

A police source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said four civilians lost their lives and 25 others sustained injuries when two mortar shells fired by militants struck Duwaila neighborhood of Damascus late on Friday, Syria’s official news agency SANA reported.

A civilian was also killed and 12 others were wounded when a barrage of mortar rounds launched by foreign-sponsored Takfiri terrorists slammed into several Damascus neighborhoods.

The projectiles also caused substantial damage to several houses at the targeted areas.

The developments came four days after a civilian was killed and a dozen others injured when militant mortar shells hit Bab Tuma and al-Amara neighborhoods of the Syrian capital.

On September 4, three civilians lost their lives and 19 others were injured in a similar terror attack on the city of Jaramana, situated 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) southeast of Damascus.

Five other civilians also sustained injuries in a militant mortar strike against Bab Tuma district of Damascus on the same day.

The conflict in Syria, which started in March 2011, has reportedly claimed more than 240,000 lives up until now.

The violence has also forced over 3.8 million Syrians to take refuge in neighboring countries, including Jordan and Lebanon. More than 7.2 million others have been displaced within Syria, according to the United Nations.
