Terrorists puppets of global powers

A senior Iranian lawmaker has lashed out at foreign forces for extending their presence in the Middle East, saying global powers support terrorists to justify their military existence in the region.

“Terrorist groups are the puppets of international powers as they (the powers) are justifying the continuation of their presence in the region by such means,” Vice Speaker of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) Mohammad Reza Bahonar said in a meeting with the second deputy speaker of Afghanistan’s Parliament, Ahmad Behzad, in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Saturday.

“A complete withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan will contribute to strengthening security and peace in the region,” Bahonar added, Majlis news agency (ICANA) reported.

The top Iranian legislator described terrorism as a “serious and very important” threat to the international community and regional countries and urged international cooperation to counter it.

Bahonar also pointed to amicable relations between Iran and neighboring Afghanistan and expressed the Iranian parliament’s readiness to adopt any measure to promote mutual ties in all fields.

The Afghan official, for his part, said Iran is among main supporters of the anti-terrorism campaign in the region and called on Tehran to offer more assistance to the Afghan government and nation.

Behzad added that Tehran and Kabul enjoy “very good” relations and called for the enhanced ties with the Islamic Republic.
