Senior Iranian MP: Unrests in Britain Inspired by Awakening in Middle-East

Deputy Head of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Hossein Ebrahimi said that recent uprisings in a number of European countries, Britain in particular, are inspired by the Islamic awakening in the Middle-East.
“The popular uprisings, which took place in some deprived areas in England, have now spread across the country as all people, Black and White, have taken center stage, and it should be noted that today’s popular uprisings in Europe is consequential to the Islamic Awakening in the Middle East,” the senior lawmaker stated.

Ebrahimi slammed the British hypocrisy over human rights violations in other countries, and called on human rights advocates around the world to “help alleviate the plight” of the people who are “demanding their rights” in Britain.

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei had stressed earlier this year that European continent would soon experience popular uprisings and revolutions sweeping the Middle-East and North of Africa at present.

Other European countries, including Spain, Greece and France have also earlier witnessed widespread protests against their governments’ policies.

In England, tensions remained high in Tottenham following the shooting on last Thursday of 29-year-old Mark Duggan, which sparked the first riots in London.

The unrest began on Saturday when a number of protesters gathered outside a police station in Tottenham to protest against the fatal shooting of Mark Duggan.

The country’s worst unrests since the 1980s has now spilled over into major cities like Birmingham, Liverpool, and Bristol.

Five people have reportedly died and hundreds of others have been arrested so far.
