Thai parties to discuss new elections

Thailand’s political parties will hold discussions on fresh elections following months of anti-government protests.

According to Press TV, Thai election officials called for the Tuesday meeting to discuss with political rivals a roadmap to pave the way for new elections.

Among those invited to the talks are representatives from Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s Puea Thai Party as well as representatives from the main opposition Democrat Party.

Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of the Democrat Party, said prior to the talks that there could be room for compromise, describing the meeting as the “most opportune time to put aside our party views and put our country first.”

Thailand’s February elections were declared invalid after opposition protesters disrupted the voting process.
