The Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei : US Seeking to Overshadow Wall Street Protests by Accusing Iran

The Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei stressed that the US has leveled the recent accusations against Iran in a bid to overshadow the Occupy Wall Street protests that are growing into a global movement against capitalism.

Addressing a large congregation of university students and professors and academic figures in Iran’s Western province of Kermanshah on Sunday, The Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei pointed to the US allegations that Iran plotted to assassinate a Saudi envoy to Washington, and stressed that one of the possible goals of the media ballyhoo over the issue is to overshadow the Wall Street protests.

“The people of at least 80 countries have supported the growing movement and that is bitter and hard for the American officials (to accept),” the Supreme Leader stated.

The Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei then referred to the police crackdown on the popular protests in the US, and noted, “They may be able to crack down and suppress this movement by means of their police and army, but this movement will not fade away and will remain like a smoldering fire.”

The Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei’s remarks came as People across the globe have begun showing support for the Occupy Wall Street protests in New York City in a bid to display that they are exhausted with the repercussions of the capitalist system.

Anti-capitalist protesters rallied globally yesterday, denouncing bankers and politicians over the international economic crisis, with violence rocking Rome where cars were torched and bank windows smashed.

In New York, where the movement began when protesters set up a makeshift camp in Lower Manhattan on Sept. 17, Police arrested more than 70 people during demonstrations against corporate greed yesterday. Yet, organizers said the protest grew to at least 6,000 people as they marched to Times Square in midtown Manhattan.
