The Syrian Arab Army’s 104th Airborne Brigade of the Republican Guard (Harss Al-Jamhouri) launched a counter-attack at the Agricultural Facility located east of the Deir Ezzor Military Airport, killing scores of Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) militants and confiscating a large cache of their heavy weaponry before asserting full-control of the area.

The 104th Brigade’s attack began at 6:30 A.M. on Sunday morning, as they planned to capitalize on the weak defenses of the ISIS militants east of the Deir Ezzor Military Airport. Fierce firefights broke-out immediately after the confrontation, resulting in the death of 28 ISIS fighters, along with dozens of others that were wounded during the battle. At 9 A.M., the militants from ISIS withdrew from the Agricultural Facility; this allowed for the 104th Brigade to regain control of this strategic area.

On Sakr Island (Hajeewa Sakr), the 104th Brigade destroyed an ISIS hideout near the Eastern Bank Fisheries that resulted in the death of a number of militants, including Hamza Shaher Al-‘Alou of Deir Ezzor, Hadheefa Ahmad Shaaker of Ar-Raqqa, and Firaas Haidar Al-Salameh of Deir Ezzor. According to a military source, the 104th Brigade captured 2 boats that were used to resupply ISIS militants entrenched on the island.

At the Deir Ezzor Military Airport, the SAA’s 104th Brigade and the 137th Brigade of the 17th Division carried out a number of search-and-destroy operations in the vicinity of the base. As a result of these aggressive operations, the SAA killed a large number of ISIS militants as they progressed towards the imperative Deir Ezzor Aquarium. Among the dead ISIS fighters killed near the Deir Ezzor Aquarium was “Abu Hamza Al-Azidi” from Azerbaijan.
