‘Syria most dangerous country for journalists’

Committee to Protect Journalists says Syria is the most dangerous place for journalists, warning of “rising number of targeted killings” of journalists in the country.

The US-based committee, CPJ, described Syria as the world’s most dangerous country for journalists in an annual index released on Wednesday.

“With unprecedented numbers of abductions and high rates of fatalities in combat and crossfire, Syria was already the world’s most dangerous country for journalists,” the committee stated.

According to the group, more than 60 reporters have been killed in Syria over the past three years.

Three crew members from the Lebanese Al-Manar TV were shot dead by gunmen earlier this week while they were covering the Syrian army operation to recapture a town north of the capital, Damascus.

A surge in militant attacks in Syria has made it increasingly dangerous for journalists reporting on the foreign-backed militancy in the country.
