Official results suggest that Prime Minister David Cameron’s Conservative party has achieved an overall majority required to form a new government.

Updated projections give the Tories 331 out of the 650 parliamentary seats. This means that Tories will be able to form a government without going into coalition with another party.

A British official said David Cameron will meet Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace at 11-30 GMT. She is expected to formally invite him to form a new government.

Meanwhile, final results show that pro-Independence Scottish National Party, SNP has won 56 out of 59 seats in Scotland in Britain’s general elections. The landslide win is seen as a historic election victory for SNP.

The opposition Labour party has secured 231 seats. Labour Party leader Ed Miliband says his party has faced quote–a disappointing and difficult night. The embattled opposition leader also said he’s “deeply sorry” for what’s happened in Scotland.

Miliband has now announced his resignation as the party leader. Earlier, he twitted about Labour’s defeat for which he claimed full responsibility. He said defeats are hard but the party will never stop fighting for the working people.

Some Labour sources say Miliband’s Deputy Harriet Harman would be caretaker leader of the party.
