Since its independence from France in 1956 until the popular uprising in 2011, Tunisia has had only two presidents, namely Habib Bourguiba, known as the father of independence, and ousted dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, who overthrew Bourguiba in 1987.
Three years after the overthrow of Bin Ali, Tunisia is heading for a multiparty democracy.

Considering the acute divisions between the secularists and Islamic parties in Tunisia, this edition of INfocus examines the possibility of a national reconciliation between Tunisian factions in their first round of presidential election.
