The Spokesperson for the Iraqi Joint Operations Command denied on Monday the Turkish Army’s participation in the Mosul offensive against the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS).

“The spokesman of the Joint Operations Command denies Turkish participation of any kind in operations for the liberation of Nineveh,” a statement said, referring to the Iraqi province of which Mosul is the capital.

Earlier this month, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan asserted that his armed forces would actively participate in this Mosul offensive, despite objections from the Iraqi government.

As a result of Erdogan’s comments, a war of words between the two governments ensued, with the Turkish President repeatedly insulting Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-‘Abadi.
