Tens of thousands of Turks took to the streets in Taksim Square in Istanbul and in Ankara for the 8th successive day, demanding Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to resign.

Erdogan, who continues to ignore his people’s demands, was due back in Turkey on Thursday after a trip abroad, with tens of thousands of angry demonstrators calling for his resignation.

In his statement upon arrival, Erdogan, according to Agence France Presse, threatened to end the protests. “His message was unequivocal, end the protests now,” he said on his return.

Erdogan said the government will not step back from a project that involves the construction of a replica of an Ottoman army barracks in Istanbul’s Taksim neighborhood despite ongoing protests against the project in the country, speaking at a joint press conference with his Tunisian counterpart on Thursday.

He said he will not allow the “minority”, as he described them, to impose their conditions on the “majority”.

Tunisians, Moroccans and Algerians gathered to protest Erdogan’s visit to their countries, condemning his policy and approach against the Turkish protesters and against Syria.

Protestors in Turkey and the other Turkish cities vowed to continue their protests.

In the Black Sea port of Rize, a pro-government group attacked anti-government protesters.

Earlier, a policeman was killed while attempting to control protesters in the city of Adana on Wednesday night.

Istanbul Stock Exchange fell by 4,7 percent at the close of trading after Erdogan’s statement.

The brutal repression of protestors by the Turkish policemen was worldwide condemned.
