Minister: US Attempts to Isolate Iran Futile

Iranian Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Reza Rahmani stressed that Washington's attempts to isolate the country have all proved useless, referring to Iran's temporary membership in the Eurasian Union.

Iran’s temporary membership in a regional and international union under new conditions shows that eliminating and isolating Iran in the global equations is not possible, Rahmani said on Wednesday.

He added that the Islamic Republic of Iran was accepted after three years of negotiations as a temporary member of the Eurasian Union.

Five countries of Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Armenia and Kyrgyzstan before Iran were official members of the union and several countries are negotiating.

Iran’s Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian underscored last Thursday that the country’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU)’s Free Trade Agreement provided Iranian state and private firms with good opportunities to widen business and trade.

“Joining this union will open the gates of a very large market, giving the country a great opportunity,” Ardakanian said.

Iran will officially enter a Free Trade Zone (FTZ) with the five-member regional economic body late October.

The country will enter the FTA with Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) for a trial period of three years.
