Baqeri_d20130127074021470Reports say a well-known Turkish university professor has committed suicide by cutting his wrist and jumping from the fourth floor of a building in a highly suspicious manner.

According to Turkey’s Star Gazete, Gokhan Budack, the president of Bayburt University and a physics professor at Erzurum Ataturk University, was seriously injured after the incident on Saturday.

Medical personnel made efforts to save his life, but failed and the 45-year-old professor died in the hospital.

Budak, who specialized in nuclear physics, had also served as the president of Erzurum Ataturk University’s physics department for more than six years.

Turkish police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, Turkish media reported on Saturday that five Turkish soldiers had committed suicide in military bases across the country.

According to statistics released by Turkey’s Parliamentary Human Rights Commission in 2012, over 930 army soldiers have lost their lives due to suicide over the past decade.

Reports say post-traumatic stress among Turkish soldiers has been caused by a lasting consequence of traumatic ordeals that bring about intense fear, helplessness or horror.
