Several people have been killed and nearly a dozen injured in two car bomb explosions in the town of Salamiyah in western Syria, in the Hama Governorate, Press TV reports.

Local sources told Press TV correspondent in Damascus that all the casualties of the Saturday explosions were civilians.

Initial accounts say at least six people were killed and nine others wounded.

The two explosions took place with a three-minute interval.

The twin blasts come a day after a car bomb went off in a government-controlled area of Syria’s Old City of Homs, killing more than a dozen people and injuring over 50 others.

The bomb exploded when worshippers were leaving the Bilal al-Habshi mosque in the district of al-Walid.

The bomb attack in Homs was carried out a day after mortar shells fired by foreign-backed militants hit residential areas in the northwestern flashpoint city of Aleppo. Some 40 people died and scores of others were injured in the shelling.

Over the past few weeks, the Syrian army has successfully conducted operations against Takfiri militant groups across the country.

President Bashar al-Assad says the Takfiri war on Syria has strongly shifted in favor of the army as Syrian forces have made continuous gains in the battle against terrorists.
