Two American soldiers have been injured when a Black Hawk helicopter crashed out of Fort Carson in Douglas County, according to a Fort Carson official.

Fort Carson spokeswoman Danni Johnson said the accident happened during a routine training mission on US Forest Service land on Wednesday afternoon.

He described the incident as a hard landing.

“At least four members of our armed services are very very lucky.” said Johnson. “Initial reports indicate there were four soldiers on board.”

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office went on to explain that the crash occurred in a remote area without any road access.

Additional emergency responders made it to the area a short time after the crash.

Lt. Col. Jason Brown, a spokesman for Fort Carson, said he could not discuss the extent of the two wounded soldiers’ injuries. They were not life-threatening.

Black hawks are “very crashworthy and safe,” Brown added.

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.

“The investigation report will be available to the public when it is completed,” Brown said. “Although there is no time frame for when it will be done.”

Investigators say it could take about a week to remove the mangled helicopter.
