Two US-led troops fall in Afghanistan

At least two soldiers serving with NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) have been killed in separate incidents in Afghanistan.

The ISAF said in a Sunday statement that one soldier was killed in southern Afghanistan, while another was killed in eastern parts of the country.

The statement did not reveal the identities of the deceased soldiers, but most of the troops deployed in Afghanistan are American.

More than 170 foreign soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan so far this year. This is while NATO’s Senior Civilian Representative in Afghanistan Mark Sedwill believes the US-led foreign forces in Afghanistan are likely to face record high casualties in 2010.

Thus far 2009 has been the deadliest year for foreign troops stationed in Afghanistan, with a total of 520 US-led soldiers killed.

Meanwhile, the 126,000 foreign soldiers currently deployed in the country have not been able to stabilize Afghanistan.
