UAE police: Most suspects of Dubai terror in Israel

The police in the United Arab Emirates insist that most of the suspects behind the terrorist murder of a senior Hamas leader in Dubai will be found in Israel.

“What is sure right now is that the majority of the murderers whose names have been announced … are to be found in Israel,” said Dubai police chief Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan in comments published by the Arabic-language Al-Khaleej on Saturday, the AFP reported.

Police have so far linked 26 people to the January 20 terrorist operation in a Dubai hotel against Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, the co-founder of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas’ armed wing, Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades.

Khalfan said on Friday that the police had “categorical DNA proof on one of the assassins” and fingerprint evidence from several other suspects, providing “100 percent” proof of their identities.

Prominent British daily The Sunday Times reported on Sunday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “gave his authorization” for the mission.

“The people of Israel trust you; good luck,” Netanyahu had said at the end of an early January meeting with the head of the Israeli spy agency Mossad, Meir Dagan, as he was briefed on the terrorist plan, according to the Sunday Times report.

Al-Khaleej has also quoted Khalfan as saying that “Dagan and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will head the list (of international arrest warrants) if it is proven that Mossad is behind the murder.”
