Iran to Host Oil, Port, Railway Meeting Next Year

Director-General of the International Union of Railways (UIC) Jean-Pierre Loubinoux announced that Iran will host the UIC oil, port and railway meeting in the near future.

“The UIC has different programs, including a very important meeting dubbed ‘rail, port, oil’, which will be hosted by Iran next year,” Loubinoux told FNA on Wednesday.

He noted that Iran plays an important role in the development of rail and road transportation in the Middle East.

Loubinoux pointed to the UIC’s role in the Middle East, and said, ” This union of railways wants to maintain balance and coordination among members and its regional office in Tehran and the Middle East office in Turkey organize meetings and seminars in different countries for the sake of more coordination.”

The UIC was founded in 1922 with the mission of harmonizing the conditions of construction and operations of railways at international level.

During its 90 years of existence, its task has been progressively extended to all fields of international railway cooperation, including technology, operations, safety and security, passenger and freight business and sustainability of rail transport.

The UIC is the definitive worldwide platform for cooperation among railways on all technical issues.

Among the strategic areas where UIC can contribute to the successful development of rail transport, the UIC Chairman mentioned the development of international freight corridors and better integration of railways in the world’s logistic systems, high speed operations, information technology on railways, security and safety, and improved integration of railways into urban public transport.

Another strategic issue for UIC is the development of international rail standards at global level.
