Great Satan US and NATO responsible for Rabbani death

Iran’s Parliament Speaker says the assassination of the head of Afghan Peace Council, Burhanuddin Rabbani, shows the ineffectiveness of US and NATO security management.

“This assassination is an example of the democratic heaven and the war on terrorism that the US and NATO had promised,” Ali Larijani said on Wednesday.

“The US and NATO must explain whether they were involved in the recent assassinations in Afghanistan or incapable of creating security in the country,” the Iranian lawmaker added.

Larijani went on to urge the US and NATO to “stop fighting the Afghan nation and leave Afghanistan.”

As head of Afghanistan Peace Council, Rabbani was in charge of Afghan-Taliban talks aimed at reintegrating militants willing to lay down their arms. Rabbani was assassinated at his home in Kabul on Tuesday when one militant blew himself up in the meeting.

Five senior Afghan officials, who were present at the gathering, were also killed in the explosion.

The initiative to form a Peace Council was adopted at a traditional gathering, or Jirga, in June 2010 following the failure of the US-led forces to establish peace in Afghanistan.
