UK lord probed over child abuse: Report

370106_UK-House-LordsA British lord is being investigated over allegations of child abuse made by 12 men against him, a report says.

The report published by the British daily The Mail revealed that the alleged abuse by the Labour peer, whose name has not been revealed, took place over several decades.

According to sources close to the investigation, the allegations include rape and other sexual assaults.

One source commented on the allegations against the lord, saying that “it is becoming clear there is a problem with historic sex abuse in parliament and the police have to be allowed access to all the information needed to investigate these allegations.”

Furthermore, the source added that “it is beginning to look like Westminster is above the law. It is important that these allegations are investigated thoroughly.”

The development comes a day after the British government admitted that a dossier, including 114 secret files in high-level pedophile cases, has gone missing. The dossier contained explosive details about child abuse by powerful political figures in the 1980s.

Prime Minister David Cameron on July 5 ordered an inquiry into the missing dossier, which was handed to former Home Secretary Lord Brittan in 1983, but has disappeared since then.

The British government is under pressure to find the dossier, as there are fears of a cover-up of the abuse by the establishment.

Meanwhile, the Scotland Yard is investigating allegations of a pedophile network with links to Downing Street. According to the police, they have a list of about 40 alleged child abusers, including over 10 current and former British politicians.

The inquiries come as more than 120 British lawmakers from all parties backed earlier this week a call demanding a wider national probe into the abuse cases in Britain.
