UK police found guilty of discrimination

Police search black youthA British court has found the Metropolitan Police guilty of discrimination against a black female officer in the Diplomatic Protection Group (DPG).

According to AFP, the tribunal ruled on Wednesday that PC Carol Howard had been singled out by the Metropolitan Police, aka Scotland Yard, as a black woman back in 2012.
The police force now faces a compensation claim from the 35-year-old woman.
The tribunal also found that she was “singled out and targeted” between 31 January and 29 October 2012.
The court says police investigators in the case were asked to delete all references to sex and race discrimination in a file on it.
This was done “not because they were not supported by evidence in the report, but because the claimant had brought a complaint of race and sex discrimination in the tribunal”, the tribunal concluded.
Howard’s lawyer has called for a public inquiry into how the police force handles discrimination claims.
Lawyer Kiran Daurka said “This judgment is a damning indictment on the Met. The conduct of the Metropolitan police and some of its senior officers towards Carol Howard was deplorable over the last two years. My client was subjected to discriminatory treatment because she is black and because she is a woman.”
