Ukraine presents award to Ahmadinejad

The new Ukrainian ambassador to Tehran has met with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and presented him the Ukrainian Symbol of Popular President.

Ambassador Oleksandr Samarsky also submitted his credentials to the Iranian president during the meeting on Sunday and expressed hope that the cooperation between the two countries would expand, IRNA reported.

Samarsky said that the symbol is a token showing the respect of Ukrainians for the admired presidents of other countries that the people of Ukraine have always presented to popular leaders.

President Ahmadinejad called for the expansion of cooperation between the two countries during the new ambassador’s tenure.

In early August, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Serhiy Tihipko said that Kiev is keen to boost its trade relations with Tehran.

Over the past few years, Iran has been seeking to boost ties with Eastern European countries, and particularly with Ukraine.
