US, allies root cause of crises in Middle East: Iran MP

A senior Iranian lawmaker has slammed the inaction of the so-called advocates of human rights over the Syrian people’s sufferings, stressing that the US and its regional allies are the root cause of the crises in the Middle East.

“While people in some parts of Syria are besieged by the terrorists and are in a critical situation, the so-called advocates of human rights take no action to ease their pains,” Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Alaeddin Boroujerdi said in a meeting with the visiting Syrian lawmaker, Hussein Raqib al-Hussein, in Tehran on Monday.

He also criticized the international community for keeping silent about the terrorists’ organized crimes in Syria, saying the US and its regional allies are the main cause of the crises and bloodshed in the Arab state and other countries.

The Iranian legislator added that the Syrian nation’s resistance against terrorists and their sponsors would be a major obstacle to the Takfiris’ ominous goals. Boroujerdi reiterated the Iranian Parliament’s support for the resistance of the Syrian government and nation.

Terrorism, extremism international issues

The Syrian lawmaker, for his part, said the ominous phenomena of terrorism and extremism are global issues and warned that the scourges would spread across the world if not confronted by all countries.

He thanked Iran’s support for his country since the beginning of the crisis in Syria and said the Syrian people would never forget the Islamic Republic’s aid during this difficult time.

He also emphasized that the Syrian people would continue with their brave resistance against terrorists until their full elimination.

Syria has been fighting different foreign-sponsored militant and terrorist groups since March 2011. The United Nations special envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, estimated last August that more than 400,000 people had been killed in the crisis until then.

Syrian Defense Minister Major General Fahd Jassem al-Freij on Thursday lauded the support provided by Iran, Russia and Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement in battling terrorism inside Syria.

At Damascus’ request, Iran has been providing military advisory support to the Syrian army in its counterterrorism operations.
