US assassination drone goes down in northern Afghanistan

The aircraft crashed on Wednesday night on the outskirts of Kunduz city, the capital of Kunduz province, local officials said.

There is no report about the cause of the crash.

The wreckage of the drone had been initially collected by Taliban militants. However, US-led foreign forces later managed to retake the remains of the crashed drone in an operation against the militants.

Meanwhile, attackers ambushed a convoy of US-led foreign troops and Afghan forces in the central Wardak Province.

Washington has been using its assassination drones in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Yemen and Somalia, claiming that it is targeting militants, but civilians have been killed in the assaults.

The aerial attacks were initiated by former US President George W. Bush but have been escalated under President Barack Obama.

The insecurity continues to rise across the country, because the presence of about 130,000 foreign troops.
