Bombs targeting two mosques in Iraq have killed at least nine people and injured eleven others, Iraqi security and hospital sources say.

Police officials say a bomb exploded as worshippers were leaving Assad Allah mosque in Baghdad’s suburb on Tuesday. According to their report, seven people died and 11 were injured in the attack.

In another incident on the same day, a bombing killed two more people near a mosque in western Baghdad.

Reports say hospital officials have confirmed the death tolls in the two incidents.

Iraq is witnessing its worst bloodshed since 2008 and security forces are a prime target in the violence.

On July 30, gunmen killed three police forces and wounded two others in an attack on a checkpoint in south of Baghdad.

Bombings in the Kirkuk province, north of the capital, also killed a policeman and a civilian, wounding four others.

Three other policemen were gunned down by militants in the northern city of Mosul.

Meanwhile, an al-Qaeda front group claimed responsibility for a wave of attacks that killed some 60 people across Iraq on Monday.

A statement posted on the internet forum of the extremist group said the Monday bloodshed was the beginning of a new campaign dubbed “Harvesting the Soldiers.”

Al-Qaeda in Iraq has been blamed for some of the deadliest terrorist attacks in the country since the US-led invasion in March 2003.
