US backs Israel’s human rights violation after reelection in UNHRC

The United States has voiced support for Israel’s violation of human rights after being reelected to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for another three-year term.

US Ambassador to UN Susan Rice made the remarks during a press conference in New York on Monday, vowing to correct the “flaws” in the 47-nation body.

“The United States is clearly of the view that the Human Rights Council has its flaws…including its excessive focus on Israel,” Rice said, adding that she will correct the flaws in the body.

Last Friday, The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) censured the continuation of human rights violations by the Israeli regime, its illegal settlement construction in the occupied West Bank, and the blockade of the Gaza Strip.

In a statement, read out by Iranian Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations Es’haq Al-e-Habib at a special committee of the General Assembly, the movement called on the international community to adopt an “immediate and practical” measure to put an end to the Israeli regime’s inhumane acts.

The Israeli military frequently attacks the Gaza Strip, saying the actions are being conducted for defensive purposes. However, disproportionate force is always used, in violation of international law, and civilians are often killed or injured.

In addition to airstrikes and ground attacks, the Tel Aviv regime also denies about 1.7 million people in Gaza their basic rights, including the freedom of movement and the right to decent living, work, health and education.
