‘US bent on demonizing Iran’

A senior Lebanese official has described the recent US allegation against the Islamic Republic as an attempt by Washington to mar Iran’s reputation among Arab and Islamic countries.
The objective of the American accusation against Iran with regards to the issue of the Saudi envoy to Washington is to undermine Iran’s reputation among Arab and Muslim countries, said Deputy Secretary General of Lebanon’s Hezbollah Movement Sheikh Naim Qassem.

On Tuesday, the US Justice Department accused Iran of involvement in a plot to assassinate Saudi Ambassador to Washington Adel Al-Jubeir with help from a suspected member of a Mexican drug cartel.

Qassem added that the US has leveled these unfounded allegations against Iran because it views the Islamic Republic as a serious obstacle to its objectives in the region and since Tehran has challenged all of Washington’s schemes in the area, Mehr News Agency reported on Sunday.

Iran has categorically denied the accusation, saying the recent US plot allegation is a “ludicrous” claim based on the joint US-Israel posture against the Islamic Republic.

On Saturday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the US administration is responsible for escalating tension and undermining international security through its propaganda campaign against Iran.

Meanwhile, a senior Iranian lawmaker, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, described the US accusation as “ridiculous,” emphasizing that the Saudi ambassador to Washington is so worthless for Iran.
