An unmanned aircraft has crashed in Afghanistan’s western province of Herat, with sources saying the aircraft belonged to US-led foreign forces, Press TV reports.

The incident took place on Wednesday, after the drone hit a mountain in the city of Shindand, according to reliable sources.

The wreckage reportedly remained scattered in the area.

Shindad is home to a US air base, which is believed to have been used by the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) for secret surveillance missions over eastern Iran and western Afghanistan.

On November 14, the US-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said that a drone was crashed in the country’s northeastern province of Badakhshan.

The United States regularly uses drones for attacks and spying missions in Afghanistan, as well as in Pakistan’s northwestern tribal belt near the Afghan border, among other places.

Washington claims that its drone airstrikes target militants, but local sources say civilians have been the main victims of the attacks.

The United Nations says the US assassination drone attacks are “targeted killings” that flout international law.
