US government is the real threat to Americans: Activist

The US government poses the “real danger” to the American people with its counterterrorism policies at home and abroad, says Joe Iosbaker of the Committee to Stop FBI Repression.

“The Department of Justice hides behind the claim of terrorist threat but the real danger here comes from our government, first of all waging wars in our name, like in Syria, and second violating our democratic rights,” he told Press TV on Monday.

Iosbaker said that since the attacks of September 11, 2001, the Department of Justice has been given “a green light” by “the deceleration of the US war on terror” to violate civil liberties in America.

He made the remarks following comments by James Comey, the FBI’s new director, in which he supported the government’s electronic surveillance program as a useful and “legal” tool to combat terrorism.

Director Comey is “justifying a government that is violating its own constitution,” Iosbaker said.

The falseness of the claim that all of “this violation of our constitution” is driven by their fear of al-Qaeda, is “self evident” as the US and its “puppets” Saudi Arabia and Qatar, are now providing arms and intelligence to al-Qaeda linked groups fighting against the Syrian government, Iosbaker noted.

“And two years ago the US and its NATO allies did the same to al-Qaeda linked groups that were fighting to overthrow the government of Libya as well.”
