US, Israel aim to delegitimize Iran election for own agendas

The United States and Israel are trying to delegitimize Iran presidential election in order to destabilizing the country as part of their ‘regime change’ agenda, a political analyst says.

“The fact of the matter is that the United States like the other imperial powers, particularly its partner in Israel … is attempting to destabilize Iran and delegitimize the elections…,” the founder of the website, stopimperialism.com, in New York, Eric Draitser, said in an interview with Press TV on Friday.

The analyst noted that the Western propaganda against Iran’s presidential election is aimed at portraying the country as “a dictatorship” that “is not capable of changing its policy without some kind of Western-initiated regime change.”

Pointing to the US-led sanctions imposed against Iran over its nuclear energy program, Draitser said the measures are intended to hurt the Iranian people and not the government, “so that the Iranian people become so upset and discontent that they [would] rise up against the government.”

“So what the United States is interested in is not democracy. It is not anything other than regime change for the purposes of extending its hegemony,” he added.

The analyst also criticized the electoral process in the US as a rigged game that is “designed to put puppets in power that execute the agenda of the military industrial complex and finance capital.”

The US Secretary of State John Kerry on a visit to Israel on May 24, called into question the credibility of Iran’s presidential election after US State Department spokesman, Patrick Ventrell, criticized Iran’s Guardian Council over the vetting process of presidential candidates.

Polls officially opened in Iran for presidential as well as city and rural councils elections at 8:00 am (0330 GMT) on Friday.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election.
