US-led soldier killed in Afghan war

NATO says at least one US-led soldier has been killed in the troubled eastern Afghanistan as the death toll of foreign forces continues to rise in the war-ravaged country.

A statement released by NATO on Saturday confirmed that the US-led soldier “died as a result of a non-battle related injury in eastern Afghanistan,” Xinhua reported.

However, NATO statement did not specify the nationality of the dead soldier or exact location of his death.

According to iCasualties.org, at least 439 foreign soldiers, most of them Americans, have been killed in Afghanistan so far this year. At least 2,720 US-led soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan so far.

Foreign troop casualties in Afghanistan have steadily risen since the war began in 2001.

The security situation remains fragile in Afghanistan despite the presence of about 150,000 US-led foreign forces.

The increasing number of military casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the US and other NATO member states, undermining public support for the Afghan war.
