Another US-led soldier has been killed in Afghanistan, increasing the number of the foreign soldiers killed in the war-torn country in 24 hours to eight, Press TV reports.

The eighth soldier was killed on Sunday after the death of seven US soldiers serving with the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). The seven were killed in two separate attacks in Afghanistan on Saturday.

Five US troops were killed in the southern province of Kandahar when their vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb, local Afghan officials and a spokesman for the US forces in Afghanistan said.

Kandahar police chief General Abdul Razeq said that “five American soldiers were killed at about noon when their armored vehicle hit a powerful roadside mine in Maiwand district.”

Later in the day, two more US soldiers were killed by a soldier of the Afghan National Army in the western province of Farah. Taliban spokesman Qari Yousef Ahmadi said the “infiltrated mujahid” killed the US troops at a base in the Bala Boluk district of Farah.

The increasing number of foreign military casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the US and other NATO member states, undermining public support for the war in the country.

The US-led war of 2001 in Afghanistan removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity remains across the country despite the presence of foreign troops.
