A US-led soldier serving with the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) has died from wounds he suffered during a Taliban attack in southern Afghanistan.

The British Ministry of Defense announced on Tuesday that British soldier from 1st Battalion the Mercian Regiment was injured in the Nad-e Ali area of Helmand province on Monday.

It said the soldier was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.

According to the latest figures released by the website icasualties.org, 3,271 foreign soldiers, including a total of 441 British troops, have been killed in Afghanistan since the US-led war began in October 2001.

The increasing number of military casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the US and other NATO member states, undermining public support for the Afghan war.

The US-led war in Afghanistan removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity continues to rise across Afghanistan, despite the presence of about 100,000 US-led troops.

In December 2012, British Prime Minister David Cameron announced that Britain would withdraw its 3,800 out of 9,000 troops from Afghanistan this year.
