US-led soldiers attacked in Afghanistan

Two separate bomb explosions in the Helmand province in southern Afghanistan, kill one US-led soldier and injure five others, one of them seriously.

All the six soldiers were from the Danish contingent serving with the US-led forces, the Danish military said in a statement on Tuesday.

The first roadside bomb on Tuesday struck a vehicle carrying Danish soldiers near a petrol base in Bridzar, around six km northeast of the town of Gereskh, killing one soldier and injuring two others, the statement said.

Four hours later, another roadside bomb in the same area, injured three soldiers, one of them seriously, it said.

Denmark has 750 troops in Afghanistan, mostly in the Helmand province under British command. Since its deployment, 30 Danish troops have lost their lives in Afghanistan so far.

The death brings the number of US-led soldiers killed in Afghanistan this year alone to 224.
