US made Al-Qaeda’s front pursuing vicious agenda across Syria: Eric Draitser

A political analyst tells Press TV that the foreign-backed insurgents in Syria need the chaotic situation to continue in order to further their imperialistic agenda in the Middle East.

The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon calls for an international conference for donors to support the Syrian people during the time of crisis in the Arab country. The event aims to collect an estimated amount of 1.5 billion dollars to be granted to the Syrian refugees in neighboring countries. Since mid-March 2011, Syria has been experiencing a deadly unrest, which has killed many people. The Syrian government says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Eric Draitser, founder of stopimperialism.com, from New York.
A rough transcription of the interview with Eric Draitser follows.

Press TV: Now, we do know that a lot of support, a lot of funds, a lot of training is going to the insurgents. However, the 1.5 billion dollars promised to help the Syrian refugees who are bearing the brunt of the violence is not coming through.

Draitser: Yeah, and the reason for that, there is a number of reasons but I think the primary reason for that is because these are funds that are not actually going towards the subversion of the Syrian government.

These are funds that are going towards the people, the victims of this conflict, which it is important to always remember, was created and unleashed by the United States and its proxies in the region.

Now that conference that we saw in Kuwait, where there was a pledge of one and a half billion dollars, this was a conference that was essentially designed to provide lip service, I guess we could say, to the humanitarian concerns.

Remember that this conflict was for many many months framed as a humanitarian issue and only very recently have we seen even western media beginning to acknowledge that in fact, this was a campaign of subversion.

But Ban Ki-moon and the international representatives stand up there publicly and talk about pledging support to the people of Syria when in fact what we see is that the only time there is relief for any of these refugees is when the al-Assad government reestablishes control over a region and then opens it up to third parties to come in and help the people.

Press TV: Right. There is also a silence on the part of these insurgents as well. They are not calling out loud for helping the people that they claim to be fighting for.

Draitser: Well, because they do not want those people helped. For the insurgents, the foreign-backed opposition, these are elements that thrive on chaos.

They need a continued chaotic situation in order for them to further their own agenda. Remember an organization like Al-Nusra Front cannot operate within Syria if the people are actually getting the things that they need, if their lives are being put back in order. Then they are seen as merely foreign infiltrators who are causing havoc and chaos.

Rather, if the situation continue to deteriorate and the lives of the refugees continue to worsen and they end up hopeless, that is the breeding ground for the extremism and Jihadi terrorism which is really the only, the last bastion of this imperialist aggression – all else has failed.

Press TV: Right. Speaking of which, I would like to pick up on a point that you have just made that these foreign-backed insurgents basically thrive on bringing chaos into the country.

Now, speaking of that, is that why we are seeing such a high number of refugees in such a little span of time?

Draitser: I think that this is definitely part of it. I think that the other reason why is quite obvious that the tactics have changed dramatically.

What we have seen is that the insurgents, the foreign-backed terrorists, they were fighting a war against the military, against the forces of President al-Assad, they have now for all intents and purposes lost that war and so the tactic has changed.

It is now unleashing violence against innocent civilians purely for the sake of creating innocent victims and causing mass damage and casualties.

This is a destabilization of the state and those forces are unleashing this chaos for the purposes that I mentioned.

It is for the geopolitical agenda that ultimately rests in Washington, London and the imperial capitals around the world which need the Syrian state to be destroyed in order for them to further their agenda for the Middle East and for the greater region.
