‘US media fabricating reports on Iran’

An Iranian official says US media fabricate news stories in line with Washington’s claims that Tehran was involved in a plot to assassinate the Saudi envoy.
The baseless claims in US media are used to support White House’s scenario accusing Iran of plotting to kill the Saudi Ambassador to Washington, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the director general of the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s Persian Gulf and Middle East Department, said on Saturday.

Recently, the US Justice Department accused Iran of involvement in a plot to assassinate Saudi Ambassador to Washington Adel Al-Jubeir with help from a suspected member of a Mexican drug cartel.

Saudi Arabia has seized on the US allegation, while both Washington and Riyadh have failed to provide any evidence to back up their claims.

Iran has categorically denied the assassination claim, saying it is a ‘ludicrous’ one based on the joint US-israel position against the Islamic Republic, and meant to divert attention from the growing anti-Wall Street movement across the United States.

Iran has even been denied access to Mansour Arbabsiar, the used-car dealer Washington says is behind the alleged plot. Arbabsiar has a criminal record and is described as deranged by his family and friends.
