US media’s loud music narrative is to justify black teen’s murder: Analyst

The US media’s narrative that African American teenager Jordan Davis was shot dead by a white man because the young man was playing loud rap music in his car is a blatant lie to justify his racial murder, a political commentator says.

Dr. Randy Short, a member of the Black Autonomy Network Community Organization, made the remarks in a telephone interview with Press TV on Tuesday.

The November 2012 murder of the black teenager at a Florida gas station by Michel Dunn “has been falsely portrayed to the public that there was a loud music when argument (happened between Davis and Dunn). There is no evidence of loud music. And why would a drunk white man know whether the music was loud or not?” Short said.

“The whole narrative about how this thing took place is a lie to justify the murder of the young black man. And that’s the way the American media works. They put it out there that these young black men were in annoyance and therefore deserve what was coming to them,” he added.

“And since there is a mindset that of white Americans that the blacks shouldn’t exist, this was very appealing. So, I felt the way that this was interpreted to the American public, there was no way there would be a decent verdict in the first place,” Short stated.

Dunn, 47, was convicted on February 15 on three counts of attempted murder for opening fire on Davis’ teenage unarmed black friends in November 2012 at a Jacksonville petrol station car park.

But, the jury was deadlocked over the killing of Davis, saying it could not agree on whether Dunn had acted in self-defense. Dunn testified that he feared for his life, and his defense team invoked Florida’s so-called stand-your-ground law, which allows people to defend themselves by shooting if they feel they are threatened or in danger.

The defense team drew comparisons to the trial of George Zimmerman, a white Floridian, who was acquitted last year of murdering an African American teenager, Trayvon Martin, after saying he shot him in self-defense.

Short said that if the family of Davis is trying to get to the American legal system, they are wasting their time.

“The days of asking Anglo-American racist, supremacist, nazified people for justice when they have been killing us for 400 years is a dead letter,” he stated.

“Jordan Davis’ family will not get justice within the American system. They must put the United States before the world as a criminal state in terms of its relationships with the African American national ethnic minority group,” Short noted.

“Our human rights are not protected, they’re not respected, and this has been going on for hundreds of years. And the real discussion isn’t the law or police brutality but when do we become a people with natural law respected when there is nothing natural about a racist, brutal group of Anglo-American group dominating the African American people,” he added.

“So, that is what needs to happen. They need to go to the US and show the whole world that this democracy is farce when it comes to our people,” Short concluded.
