Lieutenant Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Hossein Salami described the Syrian army and its allies’ liberation of Aleppo as a strategic victory, and said it defused the US plots to disintegrate Syria.

“The US and the terrorists’ coalition are taking their last breaths in Syria and Iraq and therefore, the enemy is making its utmost attempts to prolong the war, clashes and bloodshed in Syria even if it is for one more day because the US and the world Zionism are after the scorched earth strategy in West Asia, and their strategy is to weaken the Islamic countries,” General Salami said on Sunday.

“The US plots to disintegrate Syria and topple the country’s legal government, and on a larger scale the US dream of the Greater Middle-East, were all defused by the victory of the Syrian army and resistance front forces against the enemy,” he added.

General Salami said that undoubtedly, the enemy’s failure in Aleppo is considered as a great and strategic victory in the war in the region.

The Syrian army and popular forces have almost completed the liberation of Aleppo, with militants having surrendered most of their remaining territory. Hundreds of foreign-backed militants have laid down arms in Aleppo in the past 24 hours. Thousands of terrorists along with their families have left militant-held districts of the Northwestern Syrian city over the past few days.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a phone conversation on Thursday congratulated his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad on the liberation of Aleppo, saying it is the Islamic Republic’s duty to support the “flag-bearers” of the fight against terrorism.

In a telephone conversation with Assad, President Rouhani affirmed that the victory is an important step on the way of combating terrorism and the returning of peace and security to the whole homeland, hailing the Syrian people’s struggle against terrorism.

Rouhani reaffirmed Iran’s support for Syria’s anti-terror battle and said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran will stand by the Syrian government and nation until terrorists are fully forced out of the country.”

“We consider it our duty to support the flag-bearers of the fight against Takfiri terrorism, who are trying to purge their homeland of aggressors,” Rouhani said, describing the victory in Aleppo, Syria’s second largest city, as a great achievement by “the united Syrian nation” against the terrorists and their sponsors.

He also expressed Iran’s readiness to send more humanitarian aid to Syria, including the city of Aleppo, and said it was highly urgent to rush to the help of the “oppressed Syrians.”

“Today marks a great test for all countries advocating human rights. The international community’s assistance to displaced Syrians and those affected by the war is a priority for all after Aleppo’s liberation,” he said.

President al-Assad, for his part,  thanked President Rouhani and the Iranian people and leadership for their support to Syria in the fight against terrorism in all military and economic sectors which boosted the steadfastness of the Syrian people and contributed, to a great deal, to the victories of Syrian army.

He said Syrians will not forget the Iranian nation and government, who stood by Syria during its hardest times.
