“US seeks to reign over Eurasia”

The United States is pursuing a scenario of dominating the Eurasia through expansion of its military presence near Russia and China, a political commentator says.

“[US President Barack] Obama is seeking a bigger budget for nuclear weapons than the historical peak during the Cold War… The US is pursuing its longstanding ambition to dominate the Eurasian landmass, stretching from China to Europe: a ‘manifest destiny’ made right by might,” John Pilger wrote in a column originally published by the Guardian and posted by Press TV website.

The analyst slammed the crisis in Ukraine as Washington-engineered coup.

“Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the US has ringed Russia with military bases, nuclear warplanes and missiles as part of its NATO enlargement project.”

Pilger argued that it is the first time since 1945 that “a pro-Nazi, openly anti-Semitic party” controls key government positions in a European capital, namely Kiev, and condemned the West for its failure to condemn the “revival of fascism on the border of Russia.”

The article also pointed to the US military adventurism in Southeast Asia and its efforts to convince the regional countries “to rearm and prepare for the possibility of war with China,” which is the only country whose economic power is likely to surpass that of the United States.

“By 2020, almost two-thirds of all US naval forces in the world will be transferred to the Asia-Pacific area. This is the greatest military concentration in that vast region since the Second World War,” the analyst wrote.
