US soldier killed in Iraq combat

A US soldier has been killed in combat operations in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, while conducting such operations is in violation of a deal signed between Washington and Baghdad.

Under the agreement signed in late 2008, the movement of US forces is confined to their bases and all unilateral operations should have technically ceased in 2009.

A military statement by the US forces in Iraq revealed on Thursday that the soldier “was killed in combat operations in Baghdad March 18,” AFP said.

The statement did not further elaborate on how and where the soldier was perished.

The latest death brings the number of American troops’ fatalities in the war-torn country to 4386 since the US-led invasion of 2003.
