US threat of war on Iran, a joke

A senior Iranian commander describes the remarks of US joint chief of staff about the possibility of military action against the Islamic Republic as a joke.

“We’ve actually been thinking about military options for a significant period of time,” Admiral Mike Mullen said in an interview with CNN.

“This is a joke… For 30 years they have been dreaming, hopefully they will wake up,” Commander of Iran’s Basij Force Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqdi said in an interview with Press TV on Sunday.

Naqdi said Iran is a powerful country, that today its supporters all over the world have surrounded the US.

“… anywhere that US forces are present they are surrounded by Basij… they cannot move an inch,” the Iranian commander added.

Amid a standoff over Iran’s nuclear program, both Tel Aviv and Washington have repeatedly threatened Tehran with the “option” of a military strike, based on the allegation that Iran’s nuclear work may consist of a covert military agenda.

Earlier in November, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham urged Washington to “destroy” the Islamic Republic through military action.

This is while US President Barack Obama said in September that a military attack by Israel or the US against Iran would not be an “ideal way” to solve the issue of Tehran’s nuclear program.

Iran says its nuclear program is completely peaceful and within the framework of the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty, to which it is a signatory.

Iranian officials have warned that any act of aggression by the US and Israel against Iran’s nuclear facilities would be firmly responded to and could result in a war that would spread beyond the Middle East.
