Syrian Army retakes strategic town near occupied Golan Heights – map

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) took control of the strategic town of Mughar Al-Mir, yesterday, after the jihadist rebels from Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham retreated west to Beit Jinn near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

Led by their elite 42nd Brigade (Ghiath Forces) of 4th Mechanized Division, the Syrian Army was able to enter Mughar Al-Mir without any resistance from the jihadist rebels, following the latter’s retreat from the imperative hilltop of Tal Marwan.

With Mughar Al-Mir captured by the Syrian Arab Army, the jihadist rebels are now confined to a small area inside the Beit Jinn pocket.

Later today, the Syrian government is expected to evacuate the remaining jihadist rebels from Beit Jinn to the Idlib Governorate, giving them control of this pocket for the first time in years.
