US woman returns from Iran border crossing

A security official in East Azarbaijan province said a US woman said to have crossed into Iran through Armenia has returned to her point of departure.

Speaking to IRIB, he said the 34-year-old who had decided to enter Iran through Nourdouz crossing left for Armenia.

The official denied reports that the woman had filmed the border areas northeast Iran, adding that given the act had taken place she might have been held for legal investigations.

“She was waiting for visa and had yet to enter Iran,” he added.
