‘US, Zionist Israel swayed UN flotilla report’

A senior Iranian lawmaker says the recent UN report on Tel Aviv’s deadly attack on a Gaza-bound flotilla in May 2010 was prepared under pressure from the United States and Israel.

“This report was issued under pressure from the Americans and the Zionist regime [of Israel] and indicates that the UN still seeks to serve the interests of Tel Aviv and Washington,” Chairman of Iran’s Majlis (parliament) Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Saturday.

The lawmaker warned that by issuing such reports, the UN will lose the trust of the world public opinion and said, “The resolve of regional nations to tread the path towards liberating Palestine has been strengthened,” Majlis News Agency, ICANA, reported.

The recently leaked UN report said that Zionist Occupation Israel had used “excessive” force in its raid on the Gaza-bound aid flotilla in international waters of the Mediterranean Sea.

The probe, also, described Zionist Occupation Israel’s now-four-year-old all-out blockade on the Gaza Strip as legal.

On May 31, 2010, Zionist Occupation Israeli military forces waged a deadly assault on a six-ship aid flotilla while it was in international waters en route to the besieged Gaza Strip.

Lots of Turkish nationals, including a Turkish-American teenager, were slain and more than 40 others were injured onboard the vessel Mavi Marmara, with the incident leading to a major diplomatic strain in the bilateral ties between Ankara and Tel Aviv.

Turkey has been demanding Zionist Occupation Israel to make a formal apology for the action, pay compensation to the families of the victims, and lift the Gaza siege in order for the strained relations to be normalized between the two countries.

“While the attack was a confrontation with human rights and is still condemned by the world public opinion, the United Nations still seeks to justify this crime in order to defend Zionist Occupation Israel,” Boroujerdi pointed out.
