Venezuela, Brazil reject meddling in Syria and arms smuggling into its territories

Venezuela renewed its rejection of foreign meddling in the Syrian affairs, as it also expressed support to the choice of finding a peaceful solution to the crisis in it.

During a Security Council’s session on protecting civilians held on Monday, Venezuela’s permanent representative to the UN, Julio Escalona, stressed in a statement that providing arms to extremist groups and mercenaries who are fighting in Syria leads to agitating violence and terrorist acts against civilians.

Moreover, Brazil stressed that smuggling weapons into Syria will lead to much more violence, not peace whatsoever.

Deputy Representative of Brazil to the UN, Regina Maria Cordeiro Dunlop, warned of the repercussions of smuggling weapons to the armed groups in Syria, stressing that “prevention is always the best policy to restrict the dangers of armed conflicts and causalities associated to them”.
