Venezuela gears up for election

Venezuela is preparing for congressional elections and political parties are in full campaign mode, presenting their electoral promises.

As the country is gearing up for Sunday’s congressional elections, political parties are making their last efforts to appeal to the voters.

The federal opposition is concentrating on the Caribbean nation’s finding security, telling national television that they are promising more safety and strength. They say they plan to make a tougher Venezuela and try to present a united party.

“The topic of security is a national issue that we’ve all got to take on. It’s related to employment, quality of life, and education,” said Ramon Lopez, Venezuelan opposition candidate.

Venezuela’s security particularly in Caracas is a sensitive topic. There are different opinions about how to make the country safer and whether in fact politics is making security a bigger problem than what it really is.

“There is no doubt that Venezuela doesn’t have the security that countries like the United States have. So they try to make it even worse by launching media propaganda to claim that Venezuela is not a safe country,” said Fabio Basteiro from Argentine Southern Project told a Press TV correspondent.
Meanwhile, Hugo Chavez’s ruling party is offering voters more of the same. Their socialist policies have improved education, healthcare housing, and prosperity, making them hopeful to continue their electoral success.

The government has dispatched 250,000 observers to ensure that the 12,436 voting centers around the country follow the safety and electoral protocols. They are doing all they can to ensure that Sunday’s elections go as smoothly as possible, with the army hopeful to provide a peaceful and harmonious voting atmosphere, the Press TV correspondent said.
