Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says Venezuela will be a pioneer of the new movement in Latin America.

“Venezuela will continue the path of justice and we will stand by the Venezuelan nation and Justice-seeking nations of the world,” the president said on his return from Caracas in Tehran on Saturday,

Ahmadinejad had attended the inauguration ceremony of the Latin American country’s new President Nicolas Maduro.

The president said hegemonic powers had failed in their effort to weaken the revolutionary ideas of Hugo Chavez in the Latin American country, praising Venezuelans for holding a successful presidential election despite pressures.

Maduro was declared the winner of Venezuela’s presidential election on Sunday. He won 50.7 percent of the vote against 49.1 percent for opposition candidate Henrique Capriles, a difference of 235,000 ballots.

On Friday, Ahmadinejad hailed Maduro as “a dear brother who has been trusted by the great Venezuelan nation.”

On March 8, Maduro became Venezuela’s acting president, following the death of late President Hugo Chavez, who lost a two-year battle with cancer on March 5.

Maduro has promised to continue the socialist policies of the former leader.

Ahmadinejad expressed hope that the two countries would witness further improvement of relations during Maduro’s presidency.
