Venezuela to release Ferdowsi’s epic Spanish version

The first Spanish version of Persian epic poet Ferdowsi’s masterpiece The Shahnameh is slated to be unveiled in South American country of Venezuela.

The book was translated with the cooperation of Iranian Society of Cultural Works affiliated to Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO) and the countries of Venezuela and Bolivia, Mehr News Agency quotes the deputy head of ICHHTO for international affairs, Hojjatoleslam Mohammad Javad Adabi as saying.

The book is to be available for those Spanish-speaking people who are interested in Persian literature.

The translated book will open the window of Persian literature to Spanish-speaking people in the world, Adabi noted.

The Shahnameh (The Book of Kings) is a classic among epic Persian poetry and recounts Iran’s mythical and historical past from the earliest times to the fall of the Persian Empire in the 7th century CE.

The book which is composed of about 55,000 couplets was written in Persian at a time when Arabic was the main scientific and literary language of Iran.
